Leader Nancy Pelosi: A Great Deal Is At Stake

Mr. Speaker, today we will be taking a vote that is very, very important for the health and security of American seniors. A great deal is at stake. And I am just going to focus on one part of this Republican budget. I want to say to my Republican colleagues, do you realize that your leadership is asking you to cast a vote today to abolish Medicare as we know it? Because that is the vote that we have. This is not about an issue. This is about a value. This is about an ethic. Medicare is a core value of our social compact with the American people, yet this budget shreds that contract, which is part of the strength of our country. The Republican proposal breaks the promise that our country has made to our seniors, that after a lifetime of work they will be able to depend on Medicare to protect them in retirement. This plan, the Republican plan, ends Medicare as we know it and dramatically reduces benefits for seniors.

ALL Seniors & Near Seniors need to show up at Town Hall Meetings and tell Republicans we want a Compassionate Congress, not one that throws Seniors under the Bus. It doesn’t matter if their deal is for under 50. Do they think we don’t care about our kids when they near retirement? WE CARE. They better start caring too!

@jackhammer111 Dems- Health care coverage without denial of insurance based on pre-existing conditions; premium cost solely based on age; mandate that everyone must purchase health insurance.
Repubs- Health insurance companies can deny insurance and set premium cost without regulation; sicker people likely to pay more, if they can get insurance at all; no mandate for purchase of health insurance.
OR perhaps option 3. . . would be better. . . who knows, it ALL sucks for ALL

So far we have six or more abortion bills, and attempt to use the 2010 budget to cut women’s health care and much much more, and now this house bill, voted for by Republicans, ending the only program that guarantees people will not be denied medical care when they are dying even if they run out of money of their own.
There is 1 jobs bill, it was introduced by house Democrats.
