mike watt + the missingmen – 2 Wire Cover songs
Health Insurance
Three Girl Rhumba and Ex-Lion Tamer the missingmen are: Tom Watson on guitar and Raul Morales on drums. Thisperformance is from The FOR Benefit (Friends Of Richie) took place at Safari Sam’s in Hollywood, on Saturday March 31st 2007. Richie Hass is an amazing multi-instrumentalist musician. Alumnus of Zoogz Rift’s band, he is best known these days for playing in Saccharine Trust and also with Joe Baiza’s Universal Congress – probably the top vibraphonist in Southern California. Richie was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow, and since he is a self employed musician, he has no health insurance. The LA music community was rocked back on their heels by this news. Everybody loves Richie. So a group of musicians, together with the IMF, put together this benefit in Richie’s honor. And while the benefit was held in Richie’s honor, he has opted to donate the proceeds to the International Myeloma Foundation for much-needed research to find the cure for this disease. I think harmlessheroes meant “the shit” as a compliment. If he said “Wire are shit” that would mean the opposite.

I went to a club 5 hours early once where Firehose was playing, because I wanted to shake Watt’s hand. When I got there, there were about 20/30 young kids sitting listening to him give advice; it was amazing that he was so available. Of course I shook his hand. And that night (in St. Louis) sparks flew off his bass.

god they’re such better musicians than Wire. . it’s like they bring their songs to life. .

It’s called “Three Girl Rhumba” and appeared on Wires’ debut album “Pink Flag”. It was later ripped off by Elastica for their son “Connection”. The other song is “Ex Lion Tamer”, also off Pink Flag.
